Seu Jorge and Olodum in San Francisco
We have two wonderful Brazilian musical events coming up in San Francisco: Seu Jorge and Olodum.
<------ Seu Jorge
Seu Jorge will be performing on August 10 at The Regency Ballroom. Tickets are on sale. This will be a big event and I expect to see tons of Brazilians at the concert.
Seu Jorge is such a talented musician. His story is very inspirational, too. He grew up very poor, had very low paying odd jobs, and even spent three days homeless, living in the streets. Now he has a beautiful track record as a successful musician and has acted in several movies, including City of God (he was Mané the Chicken), Tropa de Elite 2 (2010), The House of Sand (with brilliant Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres), and the beautiful musical journey Moro no Brasil.
For more about his life and career, check out this Wikipedia article or visit Seu Jorge''''s blog.
I particularly remember an epic show by Seu Jorge at Stern Grove Park here in San Francisco back in 2006. It was in the middle of the World Cup. Brazil played that morning and won the game. Then all the Brazilians went to the concert. So much fun!
<-------- Olodum
Olodum will be playing on September 24 at the Palace of Fine Arts. I can only imagine this event will be beyond beautiful. Olodum is an Afro-Brazilian cultural group from Salvador, Bahia. Here in the US social entrepreneurs deservedly receive a lot of attention and respect. I see Olodum as social musicians. They offer cultural activities to young people, especially the underprivileged ones. Olodum''''s message is one peace, equality, and fairness. In 1995 Michael Jackson was in Salvador playing with the Olodum when he made the music video for his single They Don''''t Care About Us. Check out the video below.
To learn more about Olodum, you can visit Wikipedia, Narin.com, and Olodum''''s official website.
Tickets to see Olodum are on sale here.

Seu has such a great sound. I had the priviledge of catching his show in New Jersey before moving to the San Jose area in 2006. He was playing at the NJ Boatdock. I got to see him again last year in San Jose, where I'm living now. Love his sound.
I saw Seu back in 06, and he was amazing in person. I saw him earlier in the day when one of the street vendors was trying to sell him a pair of Prada, which he didn't buy. I loved how he wasn't rolling with a huge enterouge though, he was just a normal guy that day.
