What do you think is the best cachaça to make Caipirinhas, and where can you find it in the US?  Currently we have some Ypioca from BevMo, but I've tried some beautiful aged cachaças in Brazil, and I'd like to get my hands on some.

... at the restaurant Manga Rosa. I remember they used  cachaça Velho Barreiro. The bartender was a Brazilian guy named Lívio. The caipirinha and  the batida de maracujá were fantastic! Hmmm, I am ready for another round :)

Hi again!
I usually like to buy "cachaça" at the Bevmo! I love the "Ypioca Ouro" (Ypioca Gold), but in Bevmo you can find "Pirassununga 51", "Cavalinho" and many outhers! A American guy from New York start couple years ago to produce a good but expensive "cachaça" called "Leblon".
A cool article about Cachaça:

That's great.  Funny story--I was at an airport bar in Dallas once, and they had a big sign on their menu saying they were making Caipirinhas. I asked for one and the bartender looked at me strangely and said "most people who try it don't really like it--I'd recommend something else".  I laughed and said I was very familiar with the drink and enjoyed them, the Cachaça they use.  She replied:

Quote:
"uhm, we don't have any keshaasa, we have Leblon".

She then proceeded to pour some of it into a glass with some un-smooshed limes and sugar. What to expect from someone who doesn't realize what type of liquor Leblon is?
I think this country needs much more Caipirinha awareness.  It is our mission to fix that

A few days ago I posted about Brazilian drinks and the best artisan cachaças - hard to find in the US, though.
