We went to the Tropicalia exhibit at Yerba Buena SF  yesterday evening.  It was the opening night, so we had some lovely jazz.  We'd recommend going even without the jazz--it is well worth the $15 admission (free if you are a YCBA member).
For those that go--what was your favorite part of the exhibition?  Mine had to be a tossup between "lightbullb" and the pictures of the re-painted favelas on the second floors.  I also enjoyed the 1960's architecture.

My favorite was the light bulb piece - Lâmpada. What a trip!
The pictures of the re-painted houses was amazing, as well. Can you imagine the positive impact that a project like that can have on people's lives?

We did't take 'em!  I wasn't sure if we would be allowed to take pics in the gallery, so I didn't bring my honkin' SLR camera with me.  I've been keeping my eye out to see if there are any flickr galleries or news articles with pics about it--if I find any I'll keep this post updated.  Anyone else who goes and takes pics, please do post your gallery!

Pictures are starting to pop up on the web.  Here are some links:

This final video is not to do with the exhibit, but is called "Brasil Brasil, Tropicalia Revolution" by the BBC.  It goes all the way from Samba to MPB to Tropicalia to the Reggae-infusion.  Too bad they didn't get to Mangue Beat.  Be warned: it is a 7 part series, each part being 10 minutes, so make yourself a nice snack before you start watching because you'll be engrossed. Below is the first part; each subsequent part is posted as a video response.

Definitely the 2 canvas of the "Os Gemeos"  brothers...
To be honest with you, I was expecting a little bit more of the exhibit, specially in the photography side. Also liked the project in Heilopolis, the painted houses.
It was a great opening, a kind of event that makes me proud to be Brazilian
