Capoeira just a "showy" martial art?

When you see a person practicing Capoeira, it always looks so graceful--almost like a dance. Many non-Brazilians might not even take it seriously as a martial art for actual fighting, and might equate it to something like Tai Chi. If this is the case, then the art is showing its purpose, as it was origninally devised by slaves in Braziil to look like they were dancing and playing around, while they were actually honing in their combat skills.  This video of Marcus Aurelius gaining a 20-second KO against MMA fighter Keegan Marshall shows just how powerful and effective Capoeira can be in actual combat. Don't get on the bad side of a capoeirista.

That was sweet... poor guy looked confused though... not sure how to counteract the style. It must be intimidating to fight someone who is comfortable using such 'showy' moves.

Wow.  That's what happens if you spend too much time showing off and don't have your eyes on the actual game.

Oh, no! Did the guy forget that he was in a fight? That was really silly, showing off like that.
Muito obrigada for posting this video!

Actually it's fake.  That is to say, it's from a movie called "Never Back Down".

Martial arts shoes  is a Most rule sets for mixed martial arts competitions have evolved since the early days of vale tudo. As the knowledge about fighting techniques spread among fighters and spectators, it became clear that the original minimalist rule systems needed to be amended. As rules evolved and regulations added, different branches of mixed martial arts have emerged, with differences between the different rulesets dictating different strategies. Similarly, shoot wrestling organizations, such as Shooto, expanded their rulesets to integrate elements of vale tudo into their sport. However, for the most part, fighters accustomed to one ruleset can easily acclimate to <a different ruleset, as the basics of fighting remain largely the same.
