2026 - Brazil to be the 5th largest economy?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8345071.stm
Interesting news article from the BBC about Brazil's growth. They are estimating they will be the world's 5th largest economy by 2026. I can say I'd believe it. Both times I've been to Brazil (Recife) I've seen massive growth. Skyscrapers are going up all over the place, and outside the city, factories. I also noticed that a lot of the stuff people consume there (food, cars, etc) is Industria Brasileira, instead of imported stuff like in many emerging (and now 1st-world) countries.
What do you think--a likelyhood of the continued growth, or another over-optimistic "Brazil is the the country of the future" article?
Indeed, Brazil has been in the news a lot lately. Professora Vanessa posted this article for you on our blog.
I think there are three reasons for the rapid , recent rise of Brazil ....commodity prices, GDP reaching the tipping point when people have disposable income, and last but not least , the pragmatic Lula government that seeks to include all sections of society and not polarize them like Chavez in Venezuela.
Can this continue for a long time ... depends upon whether Brazil can truly invest in infrastructure and efficiency, which means all people in society feeling that they will prosper by hard work, and corruption being visibly punished. Let's hope this happens!
Hey Jude, let's certainly hope it happens. You touched in two critical points: improving infrastructure and fighting corruption. In the midst of all the optimism, these are two challenges no one can deny.
Thanks for your cotribution!
Well said...
I will stay on the optimistic side...
The work of President Lula is definetely one of the key factors in Brazil's luminous rising from the shadows of its own moral, social and economic misery. But I like to remember that such rising began before Lula. It's a work that needs to be done along many years, with a greater team work mentality. So let's hope it continues after this presidency...
Like we say in Brazil (even the non-religious!), OXALA more ruling governors keep such state of mind, and put their hands more into the job that needs to be done than into the gold that falls into their pockets!
Again... I will believe this moment is a huge chance to Brazil... and you know...good thoughts attract good vibes, which bring good results! Thanks for your good thoughts!
Vanessa
