How to use "pois é"

Pois é: indicates agreement with what was just said; confirms an idea. It is followed by an explanation or an addition to the topic.
Por exemplo:
ANA: Air fare to Brazil is on sale now.
JOÃO: Pois é, I am going to get my ticket today.
MARIA: Did you hear that Joana was laid off?
JOSÉ: Pois é, she is probably pretty bummed about it.
