Locked Up in Brazil - Personal account of an American arrested in Brazil

Each episode of the TV series called Locked Up Abroad shows the true story of someone who went to prison in a foreign country. We recently came across the story of four young Americans who went to prison in Brazil for drug trafficking. They went to Carandiru, a notorious Brazilian prison. I also recommend watching the Brazilian movie called Carandiru which is based on the true story of doctor Drauzio Varella who worked with the inmates. The movie is doctor Varella’s personal account of the conditions in which the prisoners lived and the 1992 massacre in which over 100 inmates were killed by the police.
 
Carandiru was shut down in 2002.
